Biden Says Campaign Cash-Strapped in Final Days

By    |   Thursday, 30 October 2008 06:14 PM EDT

Fresh on the heels of Barack Obama’s $4 million half hour of prime-time advertising Wednesday night, his running mate, Joe Biden, is making an ironic, desperate plea for cash.

Although the Democratic candidate has raked in record-shattering campaign funds, Biden in his latest e-mail plea says he’s fearful of a last-minute barrage from the McCain camp. He fears that McCain, along with the GOP National Committee, has squirreled away some mad money for the bitter end.

“We just learned that the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee had a $20 million cash advantage on October 15th,” says Biden in an electronic missive going out to folks around the country.

“That means we can expect to see a fierce blitz of negativity in the final days — so-called ‘robo-calls,’ mail pieces, and TV ads filled with smears and false attacks.”

As an attention-getter, Biden provides a link to a video of the Obama “Closing Argument” that debuted Wednesday night.

“Last night,” Biden says, “Barack took to the airwaves to make the case for real change. He used the time to tell the stories of ordinary people who need real solutions to their problems.

“The presentation reached its finale with Barack addressing the nation live from Florida — I've included the video of that moment below.

“Watch Barack's speech and make your first donation of $5 or more before it's too late.

“We can't let our opponents' low-road tactics prevail. To stand up to this last-minute spending spree, we need to step up our efforts.”
