Rep. Michele Bachmann, who ran neck and neck with Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney in a recent Des Moines Register poll, pulls ahead of the former Massachusetts governor in a nose count taken for TheIowaRepublican.com and The Iowa Republican magazine. The Minnesota congresswoman garnered the support of 25 percent of likely Iowa caucus-goers, compared with 21 percent for Romney, in the Iowa Republican tally.

Bachmann, Romney, Iowa, Republican, pollAlthough that’s still close in the statistical world, The Iowa Republican highlights more good news for Bachmann in the June 25-30 poll of 500 likely caucus-goers. She snagged a favorability rating 10 points higher than Romney’s, and her unfavorable tally is 14 points lower than his, giving her what The Iowa Republican describes as a “stellar plus 65 favorability margin.” That compares with 41 percent for Romney, who trails former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, at 48 percent favorability, and businessman Herman Cain at 42 percent favorability.

Even though Pawlenty and Cain lead Romney in their favorability tallies, Romney leaves them in the dust in the overall support figure, where Pawlenty and Cain are tied at 9 percent.

The Iowa Republican poll was taken a few days after the Des Moines Register’s, which gave Romney a 23-22 percent lead over Bachmann.

“Bachmann’s campaign has taken off like a rocket since participating and announcing her presidential intentions during the CNN debate in New Hampshire last month,” The Iowa Republican notes.

Bachmann, founder and head of the House Tea Party Caucus, also has the most widespread support in the state, leading in all of the Hawkeye State’s media markets except Sioux City, where Romney leads, The Iowa Republican poll shows.
