GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann has revealed that she had a miscarriage two decades ago in what she described as a life-changing experience. The Minnesota Republican talked of the experience during a candid speech at a South Carolina town hall meeting, reports Politico.

Michele Bachmann, Republicans, president, miscarriage“After our second child was born, we became pregnant with a third baby,” Bachmann said. “And it was an unexpected baby, but of course we were delighted to have this child. And the child was coming along, and we ended up losing that child.

"And it was devastating for both of us, as you can imagine if any of you have lost a child,” she said at the town hall at Winthrop University Wednesday night.

Bachmann went on to say that the miscarriage, while shaping her worldview, further cemented her opposition to abortion and her and her husband’s decision to adopt 23 foster children.

“At that moment, we didn’t think of ourselves as overly career minded or overly materialistic,” she said. “When we lost that child, it changed us. And it changed us forever.”
