Rosario Dawson (of “Sin City” fame) was apparently shocked by the graphic cruelty displayed in her latest movie, “Descent.”
The film is another addition to the Hollywood dung heap of flicks that focuses on suffering, torture, and cruelty while packaged as entertainment.
“Descent” includes a brutal rape scene in which Dawson portrays a victim who eventually goes after her attacker and with the help of a friend imposes an even more vicious form of revenge.
“It was horrifying for me to watch it,” the actress tells the World Entertainment News Network and acknowledges the need to warn people of the dreadful content before they line up at the box office.
“But it's also really amazing how much the affect is. It really humanized a lot of us who are part of this experience because it brought up a really deep conversation that most of us don't ever want to talk about,” she adds.
Torture flicks humanizing? Next she’ll be telling us that mindless flicks boost the IQ.
In the action genre, another female Hollywood star is about to take to the big-screen as a vigilante.
After playing action hero characters in “Panic Room” and “Flight Plan,” Jodie Foster has apparently decided to go the legendary Charles Bronson route.
In the film “The Brave One,” Foster is the victim of a violent crime who then turns around and fights back with a vengeance.
After the awful ordeal, her character overcomes her fear and proceeds to knock off criminals while deftly dodging the cops.
Interestingly when it comes to the touchy Tinseltown topics of age and weight, the real life Foster rejects conventional Hollywood wisdom.
“I'm 44. Nobody cares about me,” she tells the Los Angeles Times.
The actress makes light of all the fashion commentary that accompanies the red carpet. “It's the whole 'I'm wearing this' thing,” she explains. Foster views it as a sort of “person as accessory” phenomenon.
“You wouldn't want anyone to think they owned you or want someone to only talk about your body. That would be humiliating.”
Maybe Jody could bring some vigilante values to Hollywood’s headline hounds.
