President Obama’s Hollywood friends have donated a whopping $12 million thus far to the Democratic National Committee and the president’s reelection campaign.
Prominent Hollywood celebs George Clooney, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Harvey Weinstein have hauled in tens of millions more for the president through their fundraising activities.
Now the entertainment industry just wrapped up yet another campaign fundraising event, which was held at pop star Gwen Stefani’s mansion in a gated Beverly Hills community and featured First Lady Michelle Obama.
Recent comments from some of Hollywood’s more vocal left-winged celebrities have been remarkably shrill toward GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Some celebrities continued the political trash talk even after Saturday’s announcement that Romney had chosen as his vice-presidential running mate the genial Rep. Paul Ryan, crudely taking to their Twitter accounts to disparage the new GOP team. The following is a sampling of the posts:
Actor Alec Baldwin: “Another center-right Republican Pres'al candidate tries to burnish his right wing cred with a fringe right running mate.”
HBO host Bill Maher: “Paul Ryan: first off, his plan is not ‘brave’ — its growth estimates based on magic beans plus f--- the poor/bl-- the rich. Not ‘brave.’”
Actress Eva Longoria: “Romney's VP pick voted against equal pay for women and repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. We can't go backward.”
TV producer writer Seth MacFarlane: “The selection of Paul Ryan makes me wonder what the Romney cabinet will look like . . .” (MacFarlane attached a photo of marionettes.)
Comedian George Lopez: “VVLV's @MittRomney I believe you just locked down the Latino Vote!”
Actress Olivia Wilde: “Two R's won't make it right. Romney/Ryan are Wrong for America.”
Actor Michael Ian Black: “With this choice, Paul Ryan immediately jumps to front-runner status as the 2016 Republican presidential nominee. Congrats.”
Actor Jared Leto: “Today Mitt Romney picked Paul Ryan, who wants to cut Pell Grant scholarships for nearly 10 million students!”
Filmmaker Michael Moore: “Channeling Bush, war supporters/military dodgers Romney and Ryan insult those who served by using battleship as their prop.”
Rap mogul Russell Simmons: “Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, two men who will destroy our people. . .”
Actress Taraji P. Henson: “RT @MichaelSkolnik: Paul Ryan says that he represents “inner cities.” Congressman Ryan, what inner city is in your current district??”
Actor Michael McKean: Ryan says Ayn Rand was his inspiration to enter public service, which is a little like Ray Kroc inspiring a career in nutrition.
TV producer/writer Danny Zuker: “Bold. RT @MittRomney I am proud to have @PaulRyanVP as my VP because he GENUINELY believes the crazy sh-- I PRETEND to believe.”

Conan O'Brien’s sidekick Andy Richter: “I think saying ‘worst recovery in 70 years’ is kinda cute. Doesn't at all beg the phrase ‘worst recession in 70 years.’”
Actress Elizabeth Banks: “I can confirm categorically that I am NOT Mitt Romney's VP nominee. #gamechange.”
Comedy writer Chris Regan: “Romney at announcement wearing tie, no blazer. Ryan in blazer, no tie. HOLD ON TIGHT, AMERICA! [SFX: guitar shred]”
Comedian John Mulaney: “Does this mean Paul Ryan won’t return to “Royal Pains” next season?”
TV producer writer Greg Berlanti: “Amongst the millions of reasons I don’t want Romney/Ryan elected: I don’t want a VP only two years older than me. #feeloldenoughalreadythanx”
A couple of the entertainment industry trade publications weighed in on the Ryan choice and in the process managed to reveal the not-so-secret political leanings of Tinseltown.
The Wrap noted that when Ryan entered the stage in Norfolk, Va., the theme music that was played came from the movie “Air Force One,” which was scored by Oscar-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith.
The trade paper noted that the now-deceased composer donated $1,000 in 2004 to the presidential campaign of then-Democratic nominee John Kerry, apparently questioning the appropriateness of the use.
Another industry publication, The Hollywood Reporter, posted what was referred to as an “analysis” filled with DNC talking points.
The title telegraphed the slant of the story: “Romney VP Pick Could Finally Galvanize Hollywood: Rep. Paul Ryan's Hard-Right Ideology May Rekindle the Entertainment Industry's Enthusiasm for Obama.”
The piece referred to the Ryan budget as not “likely to win many friends in liberal Hollywood, since it essentially involves repealing the New Deal — and then some.”
