Flu season is here once again, and once again I strongly recommend getting a flu shot. In addition, you should know about some very effective alternatives for treating early flu onset.
For a number of years now in Europe, people have had access to a natural product called Oscillococcinum, which has been shown to have excellent flu inhibiting characteristics.
With this granular product, you put the contents of one small package under the tongue and let it dissolve every six hours. Usually three doses will be enough to stop the development of flu or decrease flu symptoms.
However, it is not recommended that you use Oscillococcinum more than three days in a row. To my knowledge, there have been no significant side effects.
For the past couple of years, Oscillococcinum has also been available over-the-counter in the United States as a generic version called Flu Relief. This product is available at a lower price than Oscillococcinum.
Other products that have been used to good effect are Air Borne and the prescription medication, Tamiflu. The advantages of Oscillococcinum include that it can be purchased as an over-the-counter product and it has worked the best of any of these products.
The following vitamins and minerals are also important parts of maintaining good health:
• Selenium, 200 mcg per day
• Vitamin E, 1600 IU per day
• Vitamin B6, 400 mg per day
• Vitamin D, 5000 IU per day, unless you have osteoporosis
With osteoporosis, a program of 20,000 IU of vitamin D3, plus one Florical capsule per day, has been very effective in reversing the condition.
With symptoms of flu or the cold, it is important to get adequate water intake to keep your body at an alkaline pH level.
Most importantly, get your flu shot and have some Oscillococcinum available. Should you start to develop flu symptoms, avoid people who are coughing, keep your hands clean, and remember the vitamins and minerals.
