Reducing Breast Cancer Risk

Q: I’ve been diagnosed after thermography with breast inflammation. Is this a precursor to breast cancer, and what can I do to eliminate the inflammation?
— Vida H., Tyler, Texas

A: Chronic inflammation is one of the main pre-existing events seen with breast cancer — in fact, all cancers.

Newer studies are showing that high-dose vitamin D3 can reduce the risk of breast cancer. Curcumin, quercetin, and ellagic acid are also very powerful inhibitors of breast cancer and inflammation.

Q: I work in a factory that produces aluminum panels for airplanes, and the factory is full of aluminum dust. Will my body absorb aluminum through breathing and being around this dust?
— John W., Thompsons Station, Tenn.

A: Yes, aluminum dust is readily absorbed by the lungs and also through the nasal lining (mucosa), and enters the brain via the olfactory nerves in the nose.

In the past, in an attempt to prevent silicosis in silica miners, officials would set off aluminum dust “bombs” in the mine, thinking that the inhaled aluminum would prevent silica lung damage (pulmonary silicosis). Unfortunately, those bombs destroyed the health of the miners, many of whom eventually became demented.

I would suggest wearing a high-filtration mask when working in that area. Magnesium and many of the flavonoids, such as curcumin, hesperidin, and ellagic acid, can counteract a good deal of aluminum toxicity.

A powerful new aluminum-chelating agent called Feralex-G is awaiting FDA approval. In tests, it has been shown to be very safe and can be taken orally.

Q: What can be done for oral thrush?
— Earl D., Ponchatoula, La.

A: Thrush is a condition caused by the fungus Candida albicans. It occurs because the immune system — especially cellular immunity — is depressed. Therefore, one would expect the infection to remain as long as immunity is suppressed.

One of the best ways to improve cellular immunity is by using a safe extract called beta-1,3/1,6-glucan. The dose is 250 mg a day, taken on an empty stomach with water only. Do not eat for 45 minutes after taking it.

Another immune stimulator is arabinogalactan, made from the bark of the larch tree. Arabinogalactan also helps grow beneficial bacteria in the gut.

The carotenoid astaxanthin, available as a supplement, has also been shown to restore immunity in the elderly.
