Centers for Disease Control and Prevention leaders are hoping a Joe Biden administration will give a boost to the agency's profile, CNN reported.

President Donald Trump has been critical of the CDC for its COVID-19 response, but the agency anticipates a better working relationship with the Biden team, the news outlet reported.

"This is what we've been waiting for – is for them to send their landing team here and set up shop," an unnamed CDC official told CNN about the transition process, which will allow the Biden team to prepare a takeover of the coronavirus response and vaccine distribution.

According to CNN, the unnamed CDC official said there will be some "rebuilding of the agency" under Biden.

An unnamed federal health official told the news outlet "the CDC benefits" with a quick transition.

"From experience, the faster you get through it the better," the official told CNN, adding, "I hope" the change will give the CDC a more visible role.

"There are thousands of employees that continue to work on this," the official told CNN. "Whether it's in the lab or in the field including the development of guidance, the formulation and execution of different studies to learn more about transmission and what sort of guidance is effective in preventing transmission of the disease."

And, the official said, schools continue to be front and center in the response.

"The CDC continues to analyze school data and if necessary, it will refine or build on the guidance out there when it comes to schools," the official said.
