Many people look to small lifestyle changes to help strengthen their immune systems. Here are five easy and natural ways to do so.

1. Get More Sleep
For adults, seven to nine hours of sleep nightly is recommended, WebMD said. Experts are not clear why sleep affects immunity, but they note that lack of sleep is directly related to release of stress hormones, which can cause inflammation in the body.

2. Exercise
WebMD also recommends walking 30 minutes a day. This minimal commitment to get moving helps to clear your head and energize your body. Such a small investment in exercise can boost your immune system, with research showing it can help ward off common colds.

3. Consume More Lean Protein
Eating lean proteins found in everything from beans and soy to beef and pork, provides immune-boosting nutrients, Today reported. Those help to protect you from viruses, bad bacteria and germs.

4. Get Enough Vitamin D
Have your levels of Vitamin D checked, Today recommended. Many people have levels that are far too low. Raising yours can help to heighten your immunity and ability to fight off things like colds. Spending time in the sun can help increase your levels of Vitamin D. Supplements are also available.

5. Change Your Diet
By eating more vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts as well as consuming probiotics, you can boost your immune system in easy ways, Everyday Health noted.
