Women between 40 and 55 or above 80 were most likely to report satisfaction with their ability to orgasm, according to a new study.
Researchers surveyed over 800 healthy women between 40 and 100 – with an average age of 67 – about their sex lives. About half reported being sexually active, and most of these women reported being able to become aroused, maintain lubrication during sex and achieve orgasm.
More than half of the women surveyed said they were very or moderately satisfied with their sex lives. And half of the women over 80 said they were always or almost always satisfied.
“I was surprised by how many people were completely satisfied over the age of 80,” said researcher Elizabeth Barrett-Connor.
Being sexually satisfied doesn’t just refer to the ability to orgasm, researchers theorize. Some may achieve sexual satisfaction through touching and other intimacies, they suggest. Another thing to consider is that those women who are not sexually active are perfectly happy without it.
