Saturday, 01 Feb 2014 08:54 PM

Pregnancy creates many changes in women’s bodies that vary and increase all through the weeks 37 to 42. There can also be many complications during childbirth, which may be around 38 weeks of pregnancy. However, the most severe complication appears before the 20th week of pregnancy, which may lead to breakthrough bleeding or even miscarriage.

Diseases like diabetes or thyroid dysfunction can be extremely risky for both mother and baby in the pregnancy. Miscarriage, bleeding, depression, gestational diabetes mellitus, and severe vomiting are some of the complications or problems seen during pregnancy. The top five complications or problems occurring during the three trimesters of pregnancy or in the entire 38 weeks of pregnancy or until childbirth are discussed below.

Miscarriage

This is the topmost pregnancy complication or the hardest problem a woman and a fetus may face during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. It leads to a loss of the pregnancy. However, most such problems occur within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. There are several reasons for such complication. One among these is the problems related with growth during the delicate phases of child development, or during the early weeks of pregnancy. Such complications can be avoided by eating a nutrient-rich fertility diet including more multivitamins, folic acids, minerals, vitamin E, and selenium and increased herbs or vegetarian foods and improving circulation to the uterus by gentle abdominal massage during pregnancy.

Breakthrough Bleeding

These complications occur where women start bleeding problems during the early weeks of pregnancy. These arise in some women in the first and second trimesters or in the early 20 weeks of pregnancy and might last for even three months. These complications may not cause serious problems in the pregnancy, yet it is advisable to visit the midwife or doctor if any such symptoms appear.

Depression and Other Mild Mental Illness

Women can also suffer from some mental conditions including depression and mood swings, which may cause complications during pregnancy if the women find it difficult to take due care of their own health and that of the baby growing inside. Discussing the problem and counseling or therapies with psychiatrists can deal with these mental health complications.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

There are also evidences that women suffer from GDM, i.e. gestational diabetes mellitus or a diabetic phase during weeks of pregnancy that see elevated blood sugar levels. Such problems of gestational diabetes mellitus or diabetes during pregnancy may further lead to many serious complications that can cause early childbirth, require Caesarean birth, or create complications during delivery. Regular physical exercise and following a healthy diabetic diet plan can control gestational diabetes mellitus during the weeks of pregnancy when the problem arises.
