Thursday, 09 January 2014 05:52 PM EST

After 30, men experience symptoms like fatigue and low sex drive. These symptoms may be linked with low testosterone levels. Recently, there is awareness on low testosterone (low T) and its management through supplements, which can bring low T level back to normal. Low T is also linked with diabetes, obesity, and atherosclerosis.

Loss of libido, low energy, and poor erection may be the presenting symptoms of low testosterone levels. Specific tests are available to check low testosterone levels in the blood. Low T is diagnosed when the testosterone levels fall below 300 nanograms per deciliter. Low testosterone levels may be caused by aging, thyroid problems, depression, alcohol, and side effects of some medicines. One can suspect low testosterone levels, if low semen and sperm levels exist. Low testosterone levels affect bone density, muscle growth, and sex drive.

Supplements may be required, if one presents with symptoms of low testosterone levels. Many supplements are available to boost low testosterone levels. However, only safe and trusted low testosterone supplements must be used. Some people use low T supplements to develop muscle mass, gain energy, boost libido, and stamina while they have no underlying low T problem. Low testosterone supplements are also being used as anti-aging supplements by many, which is not safe.

Low T supplements are available in pills, gels, patches, and injection dosage forms. Andro gel and Testim gel are the two most common testosterone gels available in the U.S. These gels are to be applied at regular intervals. Gels or patches are ideal and safe methods of treating low T problem. The safe dose for Andro gel is five grams per day. Hands must be washed thoroughly after applying gels for safety purposes. Using gel is the safest and most effective way to reduce low T symptoms.

Low testosterone supplements are not always safe to use and they are linked with some side effects like stroke, sleep disturbances, acne, and breast enlargements. Contact with gel preparations may cause excessive hair growth. Testosterone supplements are not safe for women and children. Pregnant women should never come in contact with these supplements. Pregnant ladies coming in contact with low T gels may have serious side effects. These gels may be linked with prostate enlargement, if used for a very long time. Those using gels, must keep others away from exposure to the gel.

Many campaigns carried out through media are responsible for creating awareness on low T among the general public. It is always safe to consult a doctor before starting on these supplements for low T symptoms.
