GE Pharma is recalling certain lots of its dietary supplement products Creafuse Powder Grape and Fruit Punch, after testing found they contain dimethylamylamine (DMAA) — a potentially dangerous ingredient marketed as a muscle-building, performance-enhancing weight-loss aid.
: Massive New Rules Revealed for 2013
The recalled products were distributed nationwide and sold via telephone and e-mail. They are packaged in a white, 600-gram container with an expiration date of February 2015. The lot numbers are GE4568 (Grape) and GE4570 (Fruit Punch).
Health experts noted that DMAA can elevate blood pressure and lead to heart or blood vessel problems, including heart attack, shortness of breath and tightening of the chest.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports receiving reports of illnesses and death associated with supplements containing DMAA.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should discontinue use and contact their physician or healthcare professional if they have experienced any problems.
