Persistent headaches can often be difficult to manage. The reasons for headache can be many. Tension headaches and headaches due to migraines are commonly felt by people in today’s fast-paced world. People often look for a quick-fix solution to manage headaches.
Cymbalta has been approved by the FDA as a medication to treat depressive disorder, diabetic neuropathy, and fibromyalgia. However, there is no evidence to support the effectiveness of Cymbalta as a medication to offer relief from migraines and tension headaches.
Effectiveness of Cymbalta in Providing Relief from Tension Headache and Migraines
There is little evidence to prove the effectiveness of Cymbalta in providing relief from migraines and tension headaches. Though Cymbalta has not been approved by the FDA for pain relief for migraines, it does seem to help those who have depressive tendencies coupled with high-intensity tension headaches.
Cymbalta has proven effectiveness as an antidepressant to treat severe depressive disorders. Since many depressive disorders are also linked with migraines and tension headaches, most people taking Cymbalta find it useful for providing pain relief for their migraines.
The effectiveness of Cymbalta in offering pain relief seems to be greater than that of other tension headache pain relief pills such as Effexor, Botox, and Depakote. Cymbalta’s effectiveness over Effexor as a pain relief drug for migraines comes from the fact it is relatively more balanced and easier to titrate.
Side Effects of Using Cymbalta as Relief Medication for Tension Headache
When used as medication to control migraines and tension headaches, Cymbalta can cause the following side effects: nausea, dry mouth, sleepiness, fatigue, constipation, dizziness, decreased appetite, and increased sweating.
Side Effects of Using Cymbalta as Relief Medication for Migraines
With prolonged used of Cymbalta for migraines, many have complained of more serious side effects such as insomnia, excessive flatulence, reduced sexual desire, constipation, micturition, and hypertension.
Relative effectiveness of Cymbalta over other drugs used for pain relief for migraines seems to arise from the fact that Cymbalta has reduced or less-intense side effects than other drugs used for the same purpose.
Cymbalta causes relatively lesser sexual dysfunction and hypertension when compared with Effexor used as tension headache relief medication.
Though Cymbalta could aid pain relief from tension headaches and migraines, it is not a certified medication for that purpose, and it is not void of side effects that are caused by many other medicines prescribed for migraines.
