Saturday, 21 December 2013 06:25 PM

Health awareness among the general population is at an all-time high. Proactive health care is now the norm and consumers are no longer willing to wait until sickness strikes. As a result, the nutraceutical industry is quickly becoming the most popular preventive health care sector in the world. Nutraceuticals like Coenzyme Q10 are popular as health boosters that strengthen the immune system and prevent sickness. Coenzyme Q10 is a lipid soluble antioxidant that seems to have a range of health benefits.
Patients with heart disease have low levels of this micronutrient in their blood. As a result, investigators have reported that supplementation with Coenzyme Q10 could reduce the risk of death. According to researchers, the micronutrient can also increase the incidence of survival after a cardiac arrest if it is taken immediately after the cardiac arrest episode.
A few studies have shown that the micronutrient Coenzyme Q10 benefits patients by reducing the incidence of migraines. One approved treatment regimen consists of magnesium citrate, riboflavin, and Coenzyme Q10 taken in combination to control migraines.
The micronutrient Coenzyme Q10 seems to be particularly useful as a treatment for cancer. It also seems to help mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy. However, before becoming excited about this major potential health benefit of micronutrient treatment, please remember that clinical trials are still underway to ratify this treatment and to verify the effects of the micronutrient on cancer therapy.
An experimental study has shown that the micronutrient increased the lifespan of rats. However, this benefit has not been proved to be effective in humans. Nonetheless, the supplement could reduce oxidation in DNA strands and improve overall health as a supplementary benefit.
Early studies have showed that treatment using the micronutrient supplement combined with omega-3 fatty acids and ALC could reduce the speed of age-related macular degeneration and improve ocular health.
A word of caution: Although Coenzyme Q10 supplements and treatments are readily available, these supplements have not be approved by the FDA for any condition. Make sure you check with your personal physician before starting Coenzyme Q10 treatment or supplements to ensure that they offer benefits for you.
