Bethel Nutritional Consulting Inc. has voluntarily recalled its "Bethel 30" weight-loss pills after
Food and Drug Administration tests found several of the capsules contained two undeclared drug ingredients, sibutramine and phenolphthalein.
Sibutramine is a controlled substance removed from the market in October 2010 for safety reasons. The FDA said sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. It may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking.
