'Bethel 30' Weight Loss Pills Recalled

By    |   Monday, 01 July 2013 02:33 PM EDT

Bethel Nutritional Consulting Inc. has voluntarily recalled its "Bethel 30" weight-loss pills after Food and Drug Administration tests found several of the capsules contained two undeclared drug ingredients, sibutramine and phenolphthalein.

Sibutramine is a controlled substance removed from the market in October 2010 for safety reasons. The FDA said sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. It may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking.

Bethel 30 green capsules are marketed as a Natural Herb for Weight Loss and come packaged in plastic white bottles containing 30 capsules per bottle, bearing the lot number 120514, and with an expiration date of Dec. 5, 2014.

The pills were sold directly to individual customers in New York, N.Y., and online through www.bethel30.com.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date in connection with this product.

Consumers who purchased the pills are advised not to consume them, and should return them to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information, call 212-568-5330 or e-mail Bethel at customerservice@bethel30.com
