Toothbrush Tracks When You've Brushed

Data-loving consumers have plenty of options for tracking fitness and sleep, but now you can add dental hygiene into the mix with a new Bluetooth-enabled toothbrush and app launching next month.
Reported in a slew of tech blogs in recent days, including Mashable and GigaOm, American startup company Beam Technologies is unrolling its Beam Brush in the US sometime in March. The brush contains a sensor and Bluetooth radio to send your brushing stats to a smartphone app — including details on how long and how well you clean your pearly whites. The app includes a history of your brushing habits and lets you play music while you brush for the recommended two minutes. Future versions may include information on which teeth you brush the most and which areas you need to focus on more.
Last week health technology site MobiHealthNews reported that researchers from Rice University in Texas are developing an intelligent toothbrush that can determine how long you brush your teeth, what type of brush stroke you use, and whether or not you're doing an adequate job.
Last year startup company GreenGoose launched its health-tracking device that allows users to put a sensor on any toothbrush to measure how many times a day you brush and for how long.
