Is Honey, Cinnamon Good for Diabetics?

By    |   Monday, 03 Mar 2014 10:01 AM

Question: I have diabetes and recently started taking cinnamon and honey to lose weight and help prevent high sugar levels in my blood. Do you think this is a good idea?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

I don't think it is wise to be adding honey to your diet. Free sugars are a bad idea for anyone with diabetes and most should follow a no-added-sugar-diet at the very least.

You would be wise to consult with a dietitian to help in your meal planning so you can better understand the best ways to incorporate a healthy diet into your lifestyle to manage your diabetes.
