How Can I Make My Acne Scars Go Away?

By    |   Wednesday, 16 July 2014 04:28 PM EDT

Question: I have terrible acne scars on my face. Is there anything I can do make them go away?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Acne scars are disfiguring to some and are best prevented by aggressive acne treatment. But once the scars develop, they can be medically cleared with prescription resurfacing compounds that gently remove superficial skin layers.

Physical dermabrasion is also available, and the results are remarkable, especially when it is done in small increments over several months of time to avoid a scarring effect so often seen with older treatments.

Check with your dermatologist or consult a facial plastic surgeon about your options.
