What Can I Do About My Acne?

By    |   Thursday, 25 June 2015 04:34 PM EDT

Question: I’m 68 and still get acne. How is it possible that I’ve not outgrown this? And what can I do about it.

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Adult acne does exist, but so does rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, folliculitis, contact dermatitis, squamous and basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
They are easily confused and treatments are significantly different.

It’s best to get the correct diagnosis, and then your treatment can be properly set up for you.

You should be examined by your doctor or dermatologist to be sure what you have is acne and not some other condition you should not be ignoring.

Adult acne does exist, but so do other skin conditions that are sometimes mistaken for acne.
