Poor Sleep May Trigger Overeating

Researchers at King’s College London found that after a restless night of sleep, people consume nearly 400 additional calories the next day.

Those extra calories tend to contain less protein and more fat.

The results, published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, were obtained from 172 volunteers whose energy expenditure and caloric intake were tested after a night of just four hours sleep.

Disrupted sleep can increase appetite by interrupting the body’s metabolism and altering hormone levels that stimulate feelings of hunger.
