Being Thin vs. Being Fit

Erika Schwartz, M.D By Tuesday, 16 August 2016 04:09 PM EDT Current | Bio | Archive

Being thin may look OK when you are 18, but it doesn’t look so great when you are 50.

That is because aging makes us lose connective tissue and collagen, and fat keeps us from looking dragged out and wrinkled.

So you must pay attention to being fit and strong rather than just thin.

Strength is built by doing weights, strength building exercises, and cardio. Many women have taken to doing yoga and Pilates as their main method of exercising, which is better than sitting on a couch, but these are not strengthening exercises.

So please pay attention and focus on keeping your muscles strong.

Strong muscles translate into strong bones and a youthful-looking person regardless of age. So please do not get thin and weak.
