How Can I Stop Snoring?

By    |   Tuesday, 18 June 2013 12:08 PM EDT

Question: Are there any devices that help to reduce or eliminate snoring?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

There are several orthodontic devices that can be used in certain cases at night to alleviate snoring. Your dentist can usually help you here. Over-the-counter nasal bands have helped some people.

The real concern, of course, is sleep apnea. Classic sleep apnea is usually managed with CPAP therapy — short for continuous positive airway pressurea particular type of breathing therapy that keeps airways open at night. Untreated sleep apnea patients have increased risks of sudden death and heart problems.
