Should I Take Natural Heart Treatments?

By    |   Wednesday, 10 Apr 2013 04:49 PM

Question: I have had two heart attacks in past years. My heart doctor has me on medications to prevent my heart from enlarging but they sometimes cause me blood pressure problems. Is there anything natural I can do to prevent my heart from enlarging?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

Medications used to prevent hearts from enlarging are usually those same medications we use for blood pressure control. Strict blood pressure control is essential for allowing large hearts to reduce stress and stop enlarging. Overly vigorous blood pressure management can be equally harmful, so a balance is required.

Weight management, stress reduction (through yoga, meditation, or other approaches), and regular light exercise will help optimize your cardiac health and prevent ongoing cardiac enlargement.

Remember: The heart is basically a biologic pump for blood and nutrient delivery. There are no non-prescription oral supplements, creams, vitamins or injectable remedies that will prevent your heart from enlarging.
