Does Propecia Stop Hair Loss or Regrow it?

By    |   Monday, 17 June 2013 11:45 AM EDT

Question: Does Propecia stop hair loss or help grow it back? Also: Can Propecia be used to help your prostate when you get older?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

The same drug works for both prostate health and hair loss, but at differing doses and guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration. It goes by two names, reflecting the dual purposes of the drug.

Propecia retards the premature loss of hair and also helps you regrow hair back. Proscar is used to reduce an enlarged prostate and is prescribed at four times the dose necessary for hair growth.
