Can Natural Remedies Help Me Focus Better?

Question: I take St. John's Wort once or twice or once a day and 5-HTP twice or once a day because I have anxiety and have a hard time focusing. Are taking supplements with St. John's Wort risky, and are there other supplements you would recommend?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Self-treating can be risky for relieving and controlling emotional pain. Anxiety and depression are best managed by professionals. A family physician can help, and a psychiatrist is usually needed for 10-15 percent of cases.
Supplements can cause negative drug interactions and pose safety issues, if the products are not pure. I do not like to see the overuse of medications or treatments.

Please seek professional advice. Most medical doctors believe in safety first when it comes to psychoactive drug preparations.
