Can I Lower My High Cholesterol Naturally?

Question: I am a 41-year-old man, I weigh 185 pounds and my cholesterol is very high (960). I am on two statins and have been taking them for 2 years. But what else can I do to lower this number? Are there foods I can eat that would help? 

Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Simplify your life. One statin is sufficient and be sure it is a third-generation statin. Adjust your diet, increase your soluble fiber to 40 grams a day, and exercise daily. Push doses of a single stain and avoid combinations as side effects compound when multiple statins are used.
Often people need Lovaza (purified omega-3 fish oil, 2 grams twice daily) to improve HDL levels and perhaps supplemental CoQ10. These combos work most of the time, but your cholesterol must be reduced to 20 percent of what it is now.
Be sure you have no coexisting disorders, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism. You may indeed be a suitable candidate for more aggressive measures, so consult your doctor for a review and cardiology consultation.
