Question: I take a statin and have found that a CoQ10 supplement (100 milligrams) stopped my muscle aches and pains from the drug. But now I want to start running, up to about 25 miles a week. Do I need more than the one capsule of CoQ10 a day to compensate for the extra exercise?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Probably not. CoQ10 at a dose of 50-100 milligrams one to two times a day should satisfy the needs of most people who develop aches on cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.
I might recommend that you consider changing your statin to another newer-generation statin, such as Crestor. Some people who have aches and pains while taking one statin may find that another won’t cause the same side effects.
