What Will Ease My Back Pain?

Monday, 22 October 2012 10:02 AM

Question: What sort of treatments are available for degenerative spinal disease?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

Degenerative disc disease is treated with physical and occupational therapy and medications intended for chronic pain management. Single-level disc disease may require surgery, if medical treatment fails, but multilevel degenerative disease can usually be treated non-surgically. It all depends on individual circumstances, so it’s best to get a recommendation from an orthopedic specialist and/or neurosurgeon. Spinal cord degenerative disease is entirely different and treatments depend on the type and location of the disorder, so you should consult a neurosurgeon.
