Excess Red Platelets

Question: I am a man in my 70s, and my body makes too many red platelets. I take hydroxyurea to control this, but as the years go by I have to keep increasing the dosage. Is there a natural supplement that can help me?

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

There is no specific natural supplement for your condition, but you can choose a varied diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and low in saturated fats. Especially try to avoid trans fats. Portion control helps you to maintain a normal weight. Being overweight or obese increases the pressure in the veins in your pelvis and legs and is a risk factor for conditions such as high blood pressure, which increases your risk of blood clotting.
