What Gets Rid Of A Heat Rash?

Wednesday, 21 July 2010 03:27 PM

Question: I have a heat rash on my behind that I can not get rid of. I am trying HLC synbiotic intensive and Palmers Coconut Butter.

Dr. Hibberd's Answer:

Heat rashes are temporary. Normally, they disappear promptly without needing lotions or creams, usually after resting in bed overnight. Try to avoid tight fitting clothing that can irritate sensitive skin and avoid synthetic underwear that tends to trap moisture. Try a breathable fabric such as loose cotton underwear instead. Persistence of irritation suggests you may have a deeper skin irritation than a heat rash. I recommend you be examined for any signs of infection or underlying disease (such as diabetes) that often causes recurrent "heat rash" complaints. Applying powders or cortisone preparations to infected tissue often compounds the irritation and can worsen the infection and even make it more resistant. You need to be examined to be sure you are not experiencing an infectious rash, which could be bacterial, fungal, or both!
