Know Your CHAD Score

If you suffer from atrial fibrillation, you need to know a measure called your CHAD score, which is a tool your doctor can use to determine if aspirin is all you need for anti-platelet therapy, or if a stronger blood thinner is necessary.

The CHAD score is the result of a formula that takes into account whether a person with atrial fibrillation also has one or more of the following conditions that would raise their stroke risk: congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, advanced age, or a previous history of stroke, transient ischemic stroke (a so-called ‘temporary’ stroke, or TIA), or a blood clot.

Blood thinners shouldn’t be taken unless necessary.

Make sure your doctor evaluates your CHAD score.
