Alarm Over Elevated PSA

Monday, 10 October 2011 10:11 AM

Question: My husband is 58. He has BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia) and his PSA is 6.5. What’s the best way to naturally treat to reverse the prostate enlargement?

Dr. Brownstein's Answer:

An elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test may indicate prostate cancer. Your husband should have this investigated.

However, an elevated PSA does not have to mean cancer. I have treated many patients with elevated PSAs by having them simply remove refined foods, soy, and sugar from their diet. Eating a diet of whole foods, including adequate amounts of water and unrefined salt, will help.

Finally, ensure that your husband’s iodine status is optimal. Iodine is crucially important for proper prostate function.
