Palm Oil Treats Colon, Skin Cancers

Colorectal cancer is much more common than pancreatic cancer; it becomes deadly by invading the deep layers of the colon wall.

Using cultures of human colon cancer cells, researchers found that gamma-tocotrienol significantly suppressed tumor cell growth.

In an experimental mouse study in which human colorectal tumors were implanted in the animals, researchers found that palm oil containing high concentrations of tocotrienol potently inhibited the growth of the tumors.

Palm oil naturally contains all the forms of tocotrienol, as well as carotenoids and alpha-tocopherol, making it a powerful anticancer cocktail.

Curcumin and quercetin are also potent inhibitors of colorectal cancer.

Because both are oil-soluble, curcumin mixed with the palm oil will make an even more potent cancer suppressor cocktail.

Baicalein is a potent inhibitor of colorectal invasion and is also soluble in the palm oil.

Other natural compounds that have shown anticancer effects for colorectal cancer include vitamin D3, DHA, luteolin, apigenin, resveratrol, and hesperidin.

Cancers of the skin are among the most common and the most easily curable. But some, especially the melanomas, do have high mortality rates.

Tocotrienols are excellent agents against skin cancers, as they can be taken orally or applied topically. This pertains particularly to palm oil.

Researchers found that nanosize emulsions of palm oil greatly enhanced cancer-killing effects. The highest tissue concentration of tocotrienols with oral doses is in the skin.

A recent study using cultures of human melanoma cells found that delta-tocotrienol exposure killed the melanoma cells.

Studies in humans have not yet been conducted, but it would be easy for researchers to maximize tumor exposure by using both topical tocotrienol and oral forms together.
