WEEKLY TIP: Beat Diabetes Naturally and Safely

Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:54 AM

You may be in danger of developing Type 2 diabetes, or you may already have it and not know it—a quarter of people with diabetes aren’t even aware of it.

If you are over the age of 45, are overweight, inactive, have a family history of diabetes and have elevated blood sugar levels, you are at risk of becoming one of the 24 million Americans affected by this potential killer. For more information read my special report “The Diabetes Solution.”

Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by the body not producing enough insulin or the body not being able to use it. (Far fewer people have Type 1 diabetes which is an autoimmune disease generally diagnosed earlier in life.)

Diabetes and its complications have become the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States.
Diabetics are two to four times more likely to either die of a heart attack or experience a stroke, and cardiovascular disease is the cause of death in 80 percent of diabetics who die prematurely. Diabetes is also the primary cause of kidney disease.

Fortunately, there are nutritional supplements that can help you lower your blood sugar safely and naturally. Let’s take a look at several known to help diabetics in the fight to control their blood sugar:

CoQ10. CoQ10 has been shown to lower blood glucose in diabetics by 30 percent. In tests, it also cut ketone bodies (potentially poisonous chemicals produced by the body when there is an insulin shortage) as much as 30 percent to 59 percent. CoQ10 increases cellular energy, is an antioxidant, reduces toxic iron levels in cells and protects the heart and brain. For more information on CoQ10, see my special report “Extend Your Life: 4 Supplements That Will Help You Live Longer.”

Chromium. Chromium supplements have been shown to improve the body’s utilization of insulin. Some studies showed glucose levels returned to normal in most people who took chromium.

Aged garlic extract. Garlic extract improves immunity and increases HDL (“good”) cholesterol while lowering total cholesterol.

Flavonoids. Diabetics have an excess of damaging free radicals in their bodies, and flavonoids from vegetables are potent neutralizers. Quercetin, hesperidin, curcumin, luteolin, proanthocyanidin, naringenin, green tea extract, catechins and artichoke extract are among those found to be effective. To learn more about the many ways green tea can improve your health, read my report “Miracle Tea.”

Other phytonutrients known to have beneficial effects include Panax ginseng, silymarin (milk thistle) and cinnamon extract. A special compound made from cinnamon called methylhydroxy chalcone polymer has great potential for treating diabetes.

Alpha-lipoic acid. Alpha-lipoic acid is one of the strongest and most versatile antioxidants in the body. It exists in our every cell and tissue and is very effective in lowering blood sugar and preventing diabetic complications — especially cardiovascular and neurological problems. It also strengthens immunity, improves energy in cells, protects brain cells against excitotoxicity and removes excess iron and other toxic metals. For more information on how alpha-lipoic acid can extend your life, read my newsletter “Extend Your Life: 4 Supplements That Will Help You Live Longer.”

A number of studies have shown that alpha-lipoic acid can correct blood sugar in Type 2 diabetics and improve or even eliminate the need for insulin in insulin-dependent diabetics.
