GOP front-runner Donald Trump — excoriated by 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney in a speech Thursday — fired back in a torrential Twitter storm of blasts at the former Massachusetts governor.

Romney released excerpts of his speech, eliciting a barbed response from the billionaire real estate businessman on Wednesday night.

In his prepared talk at the University of Utah, Romney called Trump's campaign promises "as worthless as a degree from Trump University." He also asserts that the billionaire real estate mogul "has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president," branding he's "a phony, a fraud."

But even before Romney delivered the remarks, Trump derided the remarks from a "two-time failed candidate," calling him "not a good messenger."

He also declared he's the "only one who can beat Hillary Clinton."

And he even tossed a jibe at Romney for seeking Trump's endorsement four years ago for his ultimately failed White House bid.

He also complained Romney ran "one of the worst races in presidential history."

The brash billionaire also retweeted criticism from one of his followers:

Trump adviser Dan Scavino followed up the Romney attack shortly after the speech was delivered live, thanking Romney for the "endorsement" and attaching a video clip of Romney praising the real estate billionaire.

Savino declared the GOP establishment attack was "gold," and making the candidate "stronger."
