Despite Donald Trump's latest controversies, a new ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll released Thursday shows that supporters are ramping up their intention to vote, edging him closer to his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

According to the poll:

  • Hillary Clinton, 48 percent;
  • Donald Trump, 42 percent;
  • Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, 5 percent;
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein, 1 percent.

But although Trump is edging closer to Hillary, the poll shows that 61 percent of likely voters are still anxious over the idea of a Trump presidency, with nearly half "very" anxious.

Meanwhile, 36 percent of likely voters are comfortable with a Trump presidency.

On the Democratic side, 56 percent of likely voters are anxious for Clinton to take office, while 42 percent are comfortable with the idea.

Voter's anxiety levels for a Trump presidency are down from 68 percent in June. However, Clinton's up 5 points, according to the ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll.

This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by landline and cellular telephone Oct. 22-25, 2016, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 1,135 likely voters. Results have a margin of sampling error of 3 points, including the design effect.
