Khizr Khan ripped Republican candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday over his remark that Khan's son Humayun, a Marine who was killed in the Iraq War, would be alive today if Trump were president, The Hill reports.
"I was saddened all over again that to this candidate, lacks the character, lacks the ability to understand the pain of those that have sacrificed their lives in defense of this country," Khan said Tuesday on CNN.
"In addition to that, I want to solute and extend my deepest gratitude to all the men and women that are serving today and have served before."
On Sunday, at the second presidential debate, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton criticized Trump for not apologizing for his remarks about the Khans following Khizr Khan's speech at the Democratic National Convention.
Trump responded by blaming Clinton for supporting the war in Iraq in 2002.
"Unlike her, who voted for the war…I would not have had people in Iraq because Iraq was a disaster," Trump said at the debate. "So he would be alive today," he said of Humayun Khan.
"For this candidate to put his political expediency ahead of any realization of pain and suffering of the families is shameful," Khan said on CNN.
"And this — I have said it two months ago — that this candidate does not have the character to be the commander in chief of the armed forces."
Khan appeared on MSNBC's "The Last Word" on Monday, where he questioned the Republican Party's commitment to family values, according to The Huffington Post.
"How will they rebuild this party?" Khan asked. "They used to be the banner-bearer of the family values. Is this their representative? Why haven't they all repudiated him and distanced so that they can rebuild the Republican party to be the family values as it used to be?"
