Jeb Bush Wednesday continued the growing war of words between himself and Donald Trump, saying the New York billionaire is "trying to insult his way to the presidency, including with his complaints about Bush speaking Spanish at campaign appearances, but he'll still support him if he wins the nomination.

"People come to this country to pursue their dreams," the former Florida governor told ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday morning. "Sometimes they start without speaking English but they learn English and they add vitality to our country, and the fact that he would say you only can speak English is kind of ridiculous."

Story continues below video.

Bush said when he first heard about Trump's comments, he laughed because he thought it was a joke, as he had been in a "press gaggle where people asked me a question in Spanish and I answered it in Spanish."

But while he said that in part, "you laugh because it's so bizarre," comments like Trump's are "hurtful for a lot of people."

However, Bush said that if Trump was chosen as the GOP nominee, he'd support him over Hillary Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner.

"We need to be unified," said Bush. "We need to win. And I think Mr. Trump ought to figure out a way maybe to lessen the divisive language, the hurtful language and talk about the aspirations of the American people rather than trying to prey on their fears."

Meanwhile, Bush he doesn't believe Trump is particularly aiming at him, as "he's out to get everybody," but if he were running a traditional contest in which his policies were actually outlined, voters would see that Trump's plans on immigration are "not serious" and would "cost hundreds of billions of dollars, and it's probably unconstitutional."

"If he had to actually debate the points on taxes and regulations people would be surprised that he is a liberal in many of these views," said Bush. "The expressed views he has on tax, on healthcare are views that are more closely similar to those of Hillary Clinton."
