Jeb Bush said Wednesday that he feels good after the Fox Business Network/Wall Street Journal GOP debate, as the format and questions allowed him to answer substantive questions.
"I got to talk about who is the most qualified to take on Hillary Clinton," the former Florida governor told
Fox News "America's Newsroom" program. "I got to talk about issues for people who believe their chances for success are limited."
Further, Bush said that the debate format, which allowed each candidate 90 seconds to answer questions and had a serious tone, suited his personality better than other debates so far have done.
"I'm not great at the one-liners," he told the program. "We need to reform our tax code so people can put money in their pockets and begin the plan for their lives again ... I got to talk about substance. I applaud the moderators for asking the right kind of questions."
One of Bush's big moments came when he ridiculed Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton for her statements that President Barack Obama's policies "get an A."
"This an election about who is the best person to lead the country and the best person to take on Hillary Clinton," said Bush. "I have a proven record, 32 years in business, 8 years as governor with a proven record."
Bush also told the program that he and Sen. Marco Rubio, who have been friends for years, had a "cordial exchange at every break" during the debate, disputing reports that they were not speaking with each other.
But still, "he's a gifted guy, but I think I'm the best one to lead the party into the next election," Bush said of Rubio.
Bush also noted that former Sen. Bob Dole is now on board with his campaign, and he is honored to have his support, as he is a hero and an iconic political figure.
"I admire him so much," said Bush. "He reminds me of my dad. These are the people from the Greatest Generation, who served selflessly in so many ways."
