Likely voters in four swing states — Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — said by a 2-to-1 margin that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton defeated her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, in the first presidential debate.

That win has not pulled her far in front of Trump, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

"Although Hillary Clinton clearly won the first debate with Donald Trump, this victory did her only little good in her race for the White House," Quinnipiac University poll assistant director Peter A. Brown said.

According to Florida voters:

  • Clinton: 56 percent;
  • Trump: 21 percent.

North Carolina:

  • Clinton: 49 percent;
  • Trump: 24 percent.

Ohio:

  • Clinton: 50 percent;
  • Trump: 24 percent.

Pennsylvania:

  • Clinton: 57 percent;
  • Trump: 21 percent.

When asked which candidate they supported, likely voters in three of the four swing states said they favored Clinton.

Florida:

  • Clinton: 46 percent;
  • Trump: 41 percent;
  • Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson: 5 percent;
  • Green Party's Jill Stein: 2 percent.

North Carolina (a three-way race since Jill Stein is not on the ballot):

  • Clinton: 46 percent;
  • Trump, 43 percent;
  • Johnson, 7 percent.

Ohio:

  • Trump, 47 percent;
  • Clinton, 42 percent;
  • Johnson, 6 percent;
  • Stein, 1 percent.

Pennsylvania:

  • Clinton, 45 percent;
  • Trump, 41 percent;
  • Johnson, 5 percent
  • Stein, 2 percent.

Quinnipiac assistant director Tim Malloy noted Clinton's Pennsylvania win, saying, "It's win-win in Pennsylvania for Hillary Clinton. A big 'W' for the debate, and a slightly too-close-to-be-comfortable lead in the head-to-head matchup."

The Quinnipiac poll used live interviewers and surveyed around 500 or more voters in each of the four states.
