The mother and sister of Syed Farook, one of the shooters who killed 14 people and injured 21 in the San Bernardino terror attack on Wednesday, knew an attack was being planned GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump told a group of reporters after an Iowa campaign event on Saturday.
"I believe that the sister of the killer, I watched her interview, I think she knew what was going on,"
The Hill reported Trump as saying. "I think his mother knew what was going on."
Family members had been inside the apartment where authorities found pipe bombs and thousands of rounds of ammunition, Trump noted.
Farook's mother "went into the apartment," he said. "Anybody that went in to that house or that apartment knew what was going on. They didn’t tell authorities. They knew what was going on. The mother knew."
Further, he added, "I think the sister interviewed, I think she knew. We better get a little tough, and a little smart, or we’re in trouble."
Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, a Pakistani national for whom Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2014 to marry, are believed to have carried out the attack. Both were killed in a shootout with police later that day.
During the rally, Trump called the couple "chicken s---" because they had fled the initial attack site.
