Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton should be hit with a criminal indictment for keeping government secrets on her private server — and her only hope is that Democrats who control the Justice Department go easy on her.

And the billionaire developer, in an exclusive interview with "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, adds the former secretary of state and Democratic presidential frontrunner is in so much trouble that she will eventually have to end her campaign.

"What's going to happen is she's going to have to [end her campaign] at some point. I won't call it today but I might call it as soon as I learn a little bit more," Trump said Friday.

"If I learn a little bit more by that time, she's going to have to get out. You can't have somebody running who's under massive investigation and at the highest level [faces] potentially 20 years … in prison.

This is serious stuff and how can you have somebody running and all of a sudden if they're indicted, which is a real possibility."

All she can hope for is mercy from fellow Democrats, according to Trump.

"You have all Democrats in a position. That's why her best hope is that they just don't want to do anything to her because all of the prosecutors are Democrats," he said.

"And based on the fact that they're Democrats, maybe they want to get a promotion from Hillary, maybe they want something else. I don't know. If they're honorable, they have no choice but to indict her."

He compared the severity of Clinton's case to that of General David Petraeus, the former CIA director and decorated four star Army general, who pled guilty to mishandling classified information after his affair with a younger woman was uncovered.

"Highly respected guy, destroyed his life and he got a tremendous sentence. They didn't make him go to jail but they gave him essentially … two years' probation. What he did was 10 percent or 5 percent or 2 percent of what she did. I don't know how she can escape this. It's such a big problem," Trump said.

"It's very hard to totally destroy somebody like Gen. Petraeus and to leave Hillary alone when she did many times worse than what he did."

But Trump noted that Clinton has recovered from trouble in the past.

"Look, when she had Whitewater, it was over. She was going to go away. It was going to be over. Done. She was guilty and they didn't indict her," Trump said, referring to a federal probe into the real estate investments of Bill and Hillary Clinton in their failed business venture, the Whitewater Development Corporation.

Clinton used a private email address and server during her time as Secretary of State, which presumably allowed classified material to be passed over the non-government server.

Her server was turned over to the FBI on Wednesday and reports emerged that at least five emails were classified and two were "Top Secret," the highest classification. Clinton has said in the past she didn't send or receive any classified information on the server, and that the emails in question were not marked classified at the time.

Trump said he is not sure that Vice President Joe Biden will run for president if Clinton ends her campaign.

"I really don't know if it's going to be Biden. A lot of people think he's not going to run. Maybe he will, maybe he won't," he said.

"I don't care who it is. It's somebody that's going to lose. If I get this, people want to see our country be great again and no politician is able to do that. That's for sure."
