The issue of Donald Trump's tax returns came up in the vice presidential debate, and when Trump's GOP running mate Mike Pence repeated Trump's line he would release them as soon as his IRS audit is over, Democrat Tim Kaine pounced.
"Donald Trump has filed over 100 pages of financial disclosure, which is what the law requires," Pence said.
"But he said he would release his tax returns," Kaine shot back, noting Trump had promised to do just that if he ran for president.
When Pence said Trump would do so at the end of the audit, Pence said, "Richard Nixon released tax returns when he was under audit. If you can't meet the Nixon standard . . ."
