Not an idle question considering the steady increase in demonstrations degenerating into riots. Instigating riots were in part outside shadow organizations such as Antifa. Their aim cared less about BLM but purposely wanted to destroy civil order and our system of democracy and order. Their ultimate goal is to have a socialist (communist) state.
It is an irony that some of the richest citizens of our country, in order to sooth their social conscience, donated hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations "fostering equality and social justice." Paid to the same outfits which organize the affairs in Portland and Michigan leaving wide destruction in their paths.
The irony of it all is, that a large portion of the destruction happened in Black neighborhoods, people on which behalf the demonstrations were made in the first place. The real aim of the demonstrations is not about racial issues but about social justice (meaning more income.)
Income disparity between low and high income levels is growing, But the real reason is lack of education to fill high-paying jobs. We live in a country where the average high-school student has to attend three years of community college in order to write and count sufficiently.
The deteriation of our educational system is such that most graduate students have to complete another three to four years in order to get a master's degree, in order to find a managerial job which 50 years ago some good high-school graduates were able to fill.
Business owners are outraged getting no help from police. To make matters worse, insurance companies usually do not pay on claims based on civil unrest and insurrections.
These are conditions where some owners start to take matters in their own hand and form militias.
These are bad forebodings. In the heart of all this is the widening gap between low and high income classes. These contrasts have sparked revolutions and insurrections throughout history. A recent 200-year history lesson is the French revolution in 1787, followed by similar French revolutions instated by leftist elements in 1830, 1860 and 1871.
As a result, this caused a rotation of a series of regimes from tyranny to royalty then to autocracy, back to royalties, plutocracy and finally to democracy (not to mention five republics in between.) Let's not follow that road.
This reminds me of what Socrates (as told to Plato) said about governments, based on his Greek city states experience, saying: Regime changes starting with Democracies, followed by Tyranny, then Autocracy, followed by Plutocracy and finally democracy. Democracy gets finally destroyed through corruption and thus followed by tyranny and a new sequence.
An example of how this happed occurred in 1933 Germany where a corrupt democracy was followed by tyranny (Fascism).
The above examples teach us, that democracies can self-destruct. Examples, we should all keep in mind as we select our new president. Our democracy may be in peril!
