The insane politically-correct story of the holidays is the banning of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” from Christmas playlists at radio stations nationwide. Why? Because some might find it “offensive” in the #MeToo era.

Radio stations can do as they please. But given that polls show more than 90 percent of Americans think it’s ridiculous to ban that song, there must be consequences for stations bowing to political correctness — or selfishly doing such things solely to generate headlines. Complaints must be registered with radio stations and their advertisers. And if they don’t work, boycotts should commence.

This isn’t simply about one song. Sure, the vast majority shake their heads in disgust, exasperated intolerance continues to dominate society. But if all we do is throw our hands up, then the small but vocal radical Left will have won another huge victory.

Failure to publicly challenge ludicrous actions allows them to take root. Not only does that set the bar of common sense lower, but it incentivizes the Left to up the ante in its quest to destroy more hallowed American traditions. That, in turn, sets the stage for the next crazy thing — and when that occurs, the prior insanity, by comparison, doesn’t seem quite as crazy. It’s all a calculated part of the Leftist social engineering playbook.

It’s a huge mistake to argue, point for point, why “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” isn’t offensive. When we “take the bait,” we unwittingly give credibility to extremist positions, elevating them to a undeserved level of respect.

You can’t win an argument with a fool, and those who advocate such bans are impossible to logically rebut. “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is intuitively not offensive, and hasn’t been since it was written in 1944.  It's just a happy Christmas song, and it’s been sung for decades with no ill effects.

The key to these issues is “intent” — which is precisely what the PC thought police cannot comprehend. There is no negative intent when naming sports teams after Native Americans, when a comedian makes an off-color joke, or when a school mascot is a cowboy, gold miner, or even a bullet. And there is absolutely, positively no negative intent in a fantastic Christmas song, where a man and woman sing together in harmony. It’s time to stop giving credence to third grade arguments.

Do that, and the only babies left in the cold outside will be the chronically joyless whiners.
