A fateful decision faces the Republican congressional leadership, always tempted to do the expedient thing that passes for governing in official Washington, D.C.
That would entail a year-end spending bill that abandons the conservative principles and policies that put them in charge, for example by approving an amnesty for illegal aliens, further deficit spending on domestic programs and failing to secure our southern border.
Such a deal would delight Democrats but break faith with the millions of Americans who elected Republicans to do precisely the opposite.
Today, 43 prominent conservatives and I wrote legislators urging them not to go there. We emphasized that "In control of Congress and the presidency for the first time in a decade, Republicans must reverse the leftist policies that threaten our economy, our military, and the hopes of the American people."
