For years now, it’s been obvious that the formidable resources of the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been employed against Donald Trump, his campaign, transition and presidency. Now, the evidence has triggered a criminal investigation.

That means U.S. Atty. Gen. William Barr and Connecticut U.S. Atty. John Durham are exploring with sworn testimony before a federal grand jury whether senior Obama administration officials actually acted illegally. If the grand jurors agree, indictments and trials of at least some of those individuals could finally be forthcoming.

The prospect that there may really be "equal justice under the law" will be heartening to many. It will also inspire new, frenzied opposition aimed at undermining the investigation’s credibility, distracting those responsible and deflecting public attention to the latest effort to take out Mr. Trump in the House of Representatives.

Godspeed, Messrs. Barr and Durham.
