Democrat Joe Biden won the election and it is time to move on, Blackstone co-founder Steve Schwarzman told Axios on Monday.
"I'm a fan of good process," Schwarzman said. "In my comments three days after the election, I was trying to be a voice of reason and express why it's in the national interest to have all Americans believe the election is being resolved correctly. But the outcome is very certain today, and the country should move on."
Schwarzman is one of President Donald Trump's most loyal supporters, having donated millions of dollars to his 2020 reelection campaign even as other large financial backers abandoned him, according to the Daily Beast.
Axios reported that top aides of the president have outright contempt for some establishment business groups, but not for Schwarzman, who has remained a close confidant of Trump's throughout his presidency.
“I supported President Trump and the strong economic path he built,” Schwarzman said..”Like many in the business community, I am ready to help President-elect Biden and his team as they confront the significant challenges of rebuilding our post-COVID economy."
Schwarzman’s statement comes as a source familiar with the situation said the Trump legal team had been arguing with each other on phone conversations with the president as few key campaign and White House officials have been publicly endorsing the legal strategy to claim widespread voter fraud.
