Consumer Electronics Chief: Obama Regulators Lack Experience

By    |   Wednesday, 19 Oct 2011 08:21 AM

Gary Shapiro, president of the Consumer Electronics Association, told the Washington Times that he stands behind his declaration that the Obama administration is the “most anti-business administration in my lifetime.”

“I challenge anyone, and no one’s ever answered me, to come up with a more anti-business administration,” Shapiro added.

The CEA is an organization that claims to unite 2,000 businesses and offer them benefits such as “valuable and innovative members-only resources.”

CEA's goal is to grow the consumer electronics industry. Such a goal is one that most people would likely connect with the hot button issue of job creation.

Yet, Shapiro told the Washington Times that the Obama administration is the first in his tenure not to actively support the trade group’s massive annual trade fair and is working to further restrict the right of administration employees to attend.

Shapiro also insisted that Obama's administration was anti-business during an interview with the Daily Caller last month. He supported his claims by pointing to examples such as “investigations and breakdowns of companies like Gibson” and “monopoly investigations of great American companies like Google.”

"They’re doing things that are very harmful to the economy,” Shapiro explained to The Washington Times, adding that Obama's regulation officials are "not bad people. They just have no experience with business.”

These are Shapiro's opinions of the administration overall. But what does he think of the Ppesident's individual attitude toward the business community?

“I don’t think President Obama has the background or experience to be pro-business or anti-business,” Shapiro told the Daily Caller. “He has very little executive experience. The only thing he ever ran was a presidential campaign and a Senate office before he became president.”
